What does shoes on a lamp post mean?

Ive heard a rumor that if shoes are hung over a lamp post it means that there is a drug dealer marking his patch – is this true? or am i bein led on!

It is popularly believed that tennis shoes hanging from utility wires designate “gang territory” or a location where one can buy street drugs, but that version of events would not seem to apply to the hefty percentage of shoes seen dangling over non-gang neighborhoods and quiet streets in rural towns where there’s little or no gang and drug activity to be found.

Another folk belief holds that teenage boys who’ve just “scored” for the first time — i.e., lost their virginity — are wont to heave an old pair of sneakers over a power line to celebrate the moment and proclaim their conquest to the world (who says teenage boys aren’t romantic?).

will a lamp with LED light bulbs support any low light plants in my tank?

i just bought the lamp today and its my first time having a lamp. i mean aquarium lamp. it can stretch up to 24″ long. will this kind of lamp be able to grow plants like java moss or mosses? because i need to have mosses to bring in small micro scoptic for the fry to eat… the lamp has 32 day light bulbs and 8 moon light bulbs… it did not say anything about giving lights for plants but will this work still? and what kind of moss are low light mosses please tell me… tthanks you

For low light requiring plants, the daylight bulbs will do just fine.

A lot of the plants I’ve kept and sold over the years haven’t had any light except for the diffused daylight that filtered into the room, and they seemed to do just fine. Java ferns and moss seemed to do really well under those conditions, as well as wisteria, ludwigia, hygrophilia, and cabomba. Give some of those a shot, they won’t grow as fast as if you had a proper light designed for plant growth, but they shouldn’t fail either.

Your fry should be able to pick tiny particles of food off of almost any plant that’s been in your tank for a while, and most of those offer plenty of places to hide.

Help with Solar UPS for College Project?

For our college project, we decided to make a small scale solar UPS that would be used to light up an LED lamp. The Led requires a voltage of 3.1V and a Direct Current of about 5 mA. We decided to connect 3 small pencil rechargeable cells in series that gives a voltage of 1.2V at 600 mAh each. Now, we need to connect the solar panel in a way that it is able to charge this battery setup(3 pencil cells connected in series). Can anyone help us out with the circuit diagram for the same? Also, we were looking for a logic switch that could detect and prevent the flow of charges from Solar panel to the Battery setup when the battery setup is fully charged.

3 cells in series will provide 3.6v.
Connect a resistor in series with the led across this voltage.
if the led drops 3.1v, you will have 0.5v across the resistor.
To set led current at 5ma R=E/I =0.5/0.005 = 100 ohms.

Now get a solar cell or connect up solar cells to get a voltage of about 5VDC
go to Radio shack and get a voltage regulator I.C. that you can set to 3.6VDC out
once the batteries are charged they will stop receiving current.

my HDD from my laptop HP Pavilion Dv2000 160GB WD hard driver temperature between 45-55 on idle, and even when the Pc is on idle the HDD lamp blinks frequently.
IS there a virus that runs the HDD just to increase its temp
