Ever heard of a mogul base light bulb fixture?

I have two floor lamps that are very old that fit a mogul base bulb. It’s quite a bit larger than a standard size bulb.

Was this type of bulb common only to the U.S. or did it extend to the U.K. and Europe. I’m just wondering, what was, if any advantages to this style of bulb?
I believe the floorlamps are 1940s vintage. One is quite ornate. Fortunately, when a local hardware store was going out of business I was able to buy about 7 of these bulbs for a dollar each.

Yes I’ve used them and the lamps are still on the market. You should contact a electrical supply company not the local hardware store. The lamps were never too common but they were used in some industrial applications. IDK about the UK. In the US the lamp bases are candelabra, edison and mogul base sizes. Also a whole bunch of miniature and compact bulbs.

I have been working for a few months redecorating my living room with paint, furniture, rugs, accents. I am not quite done. I just purchased the 2 end tables in the picture and made them to be a coffee table. This is only one side of the room. I still need some things on the wall and a new floor lamp, and table top accessories, but I wanted to get peoples opinions on what you think of it. It is not the best picture my husband just took it with his phone and emailed it. I will take any suggestions. Thanks

You are certainly correct about the lamp, it is not suited for the space. Try two smaller lamps, maybe in red to pick up the accent colors of your pillows, that shine downward at each side of the love seat.

You are on your own in a new house.
On the 2nd floor is a lamp.
In the basement are 3 switches,
one of them switches on the lamp but you don’t know which one.
You can switch them on and off as much as you like,
but you can only go and check the lamp once.
After checking you should now know
which is the switch for the lamp…
How do you accomplish this task ?
You switch one on, leave it on for two mins and then turn it off.
You then switch on the second, and while leaving it on go upstairs to check.
If the bulb is hot……but off then it’s the first switch.
If it’s on……….then it’s the second
If it’s off and cold…then it’s the third!………o.k

Turn two of them on. Then turn one off and remember which one u turned off. Go to the lightbulb and look if it is on or off. if it is on, the switch that is on is the one. If it is off, feel it, and if it is warm, it is the switch that was on but was then turned off. If it is not warm, it is the one that was never turned on.
