12 volt outdoor lighting question. Cost to have 10 18w par 36 lamps on a photo cell.?
I would like to know what it would cost a month to run these lights.
The other light i was looking at is a type 4 luxeon high output led unit.

This is 12 volt landscape lighting that runs off a transformer.
Your light runs off of a battery. Your solar cell will charge a battery, if it is a small output cell it will take longer to charge. If the battery is a larger than needed battery it will be used longer between charges than a smaller battery would.
Ex. I have a 10watt lamp on a 12 volt cell with an output of 2 amps(in direct sunlight) with a battery capable of running 5 amps continuous for 10 hours.
1. This battery will run 5 amps for 10 hours, so my .8 amps will run a tad higher than 50 hours.
2. My cell is only putting out 2 amps and my lights are using .8 amps, so to charge this battery in much less time I would use a larger output cell…maybe a 5 amp output ( in this example).
3. My battery will run two days without a charge, this is a good size between charges.
If I increase my lights on the string I am increasing the load. I need to adjust the cell ( output ) and the battery (storage) to meet the needs of the load.
My cost is simple math from this point….

Why does my digital camera take really crappy outdoor pictures?
Pictures taken indoors are good, but when I try to take pictures outside, they look really washed out, no matter if it’s sun or shade. Some are so light you can hardly see the picture at all. It’s just a point and shoot, nothing fancy, but what is the problem?
You don’t give us much to go on here, knowing the camera’s make and model would be useful.
Does the camera allow you any control at all? Are there various scene modes? Because it sounds to me like the camera has been put in a mode especially for taking indoor pictures and has been left in that mode when you use it outside. In indoor mode the camera tries to maximize every available bit of light. This results in over-exposed photos when used outside.
Try playing with any different modes the camera may have.

Actually no because you are no taking the whole balance:
The mercury impact is made of two parts:
1 – mercury in the bulb and used during its production
2 – use related mercury: as you have a lot of coal power plants in your energy mix… and coal contains small quantities of mercury… for every unit of electricity used, the coal combustion sets the mercury free in the air and it spreads. That´s how Maine is affected by the coal power plants from Ohio and California even from the chinese ones.
So if you have a less efficient bulb, you use more energy for the same result (light=useful energy)… therefore more coal is burnt resulting in higher mercury output.
This has been debated by the EPA and as a whole, energy efficient bulbs have a lower mercury impact.

Energy Saving Bulbs Wattage Equivalent
Can low wattage energy saving bulb safely be used in place of lamp’s max incandescent equivalent?
If max wattage on lamp is 60 can I use an energy saver light of less wattage even though that light is brighter than the incandescent 60 watt bulb? Or will the heat from the brighter energy saver he higher and create any fire hazard?
If the max wattage on a lamp is 60 watts, then that is your max watts no matter if it is an incandescent or compact florescent light (CFL). The confusion takes place in the comparison. For example, if you were to replace the 60 watt incandescent bulb with a 25 watt CFL, you are using 35 less watts, and will save that much on your power bill. This will not create any fire hazard.
I know you did not ask the following, but it helps answer your question.
Savings = watts saved times cost of kWh
If you are paying $0.10 (ten cents) per kilowatt-hour, and if this bulb is used 5 hours per day, then 5 hrs x 35 watts saved = 175 watt-hours saved per day
175 watt-hours x 30 days = 5,250 watt-hours saved per month
5,250 watt-hours / 1000 = 5.25 kilowatt-hours saved per mo.
Savings = 5.25 x $0.10
Savings = $0.525 per month
The result is less cost for brighter light that lasts 10 times longer.
The great thing about this is, the 25 watt CFL will be about as bright as the 100 watt incandescent, and are cooler to the touch as well. And again, reducing watts in a lamp will not create a fire hazard!!!

Energy Saving Bulbs Dimmer
I just installed a levitron dimmer switch in my kitchen and when I turn it on why does it make humming sound?
When I play with the switch(slide it up and down slowly) sometimes lights flicker. The sound is coming from the switch itself and it is connected to an outlet. The switch itself controls 5 recessed lights with only 3 75w bulbs installed. The switch is rated for 600w so I dont think it is overloaded,
Also, the bulbs are those compact flourescent bulbs(energy saving ones).
Help would be greatly appreciated.

Energy Saving Light Bulbs – Heat Output?
Hi – This is a safety question. I have a lampshade in my living room which is made of the typical soft lampshade material (cardboard/plastic thingy). It says 60W maximum on the shade however, this wattage is not enough for the room. Im thinking of using a 100W energy saving bulb in the fitting which is equivalent to 14W for a normal bulb. Do energy saving bulbs give off the same heat as conventional bulbs and am i safe to use this 100W (14W standard) energy saving bulb. They do seem and feel cooler?

80% of the energy consumed by an incandescent light bulb is ends up as heat. The remaining 20% is light. That’s why the CFLs are so much more energy efficient; they simply don’t generate all that heat.
You will be quite fine using the larger CFL in there.
