Floor Lamp Wooden
Help with bedroom?
My bedroom is (going to be) French, shabby chic. I’ve got all the furniture which is white/off white/cream. The bedding is sort of an oyster colour and the lamps and accessories are gold. I’ve also got a corona to go above the bed (a box with curtains hanging down). I have a gold mirror with two dark bronze plaques either side of the mirror opposite the bed. What colour do I paint the walls? Do I wallpaper? If so, what colour?! Help!! Also, should I have carpet or wooden floors? How dark should the wood be?
Wow! That sounds fantastic! I’m surprised you need any help with colours when you’ve made such a good start.
I always think of blue when I think of French Shabby Chic….that lovely mid blue colour. It would look beautiful with the off-white/cream furniture and the oyster colour, also the gold and the dark bronze.
Wallpaper could work but I think a plain painted wall would be more in keeping with your look.
The floor should be a lightish colour I think…..not too new looking of course – maybe an antique pine.

Can I use a normal reading lamp as a 12v lamp? What are the maximum watts at 12v?
I would like to use a normal reading/desk lamp (rated 60 watts max) as a 12v lamp attached to a battery. I will only use a 5watt LED bulb but I was wondering if this has the potential to do damaage or to cause a fire. The 60 watts max reading lamp is for use at 240 volts AC so if I am using it at 12v, should I be trying to maintain the same maximum current draw to avoid problems? By my calculations:
60 watts bulb at 240 v AC is current draw of 0.25 amps
5 watts bulb at 12V DV is current draw of 0.416 amps
So, if the manufacturers have put a 60 watts limit on my lamp because the wiring and fittings cannot take more current, I will have problems. Won’t I? If the manufacturers are more concerned about the heat generated from high-wattage bulbs, then obviously I’ll be OK. Thanks in advance for your answers.
The 60W rating is based on the heat created by the specified bulb type. The electrical components can typically handle significantly more power. You will be fine.

Plant growth is what you are measuring and what you hypothesize to be affected by what you manipulate (the kinds of light – artificial or sunlight). It is basically the effect of whatever you vary (manipulate) and is measurable: in your case plant growth.

I have read around and it sounds like the majority of the people say that having smoked headlights and tail lights is illegal. What I am wondering is if people are talking about the black coverings that cover the light, or some lights that are actually tinted.

Those are both fine. The covers are illegal on headlights and a mild smoke(like the tails) isn’t anything to write home about. Those headlights just have black housings they aren’t even tinted.

Night lighting for a marine aquarium?
My father currently has a 55g marine aquarium, which holds some fish (firetail goby, clown fish, a damselfish) along with invertebrates (peppermint shrimp coral banded shrimp, emerald crabs, hermit crabs, snails). The thing is, several of the things living in the tank prefer to be more active at night. He turns off the big light, and usually there’s enough light coming in from another room that he can see general shapes moving around, but he would like to see more detail.
Is there a light which can be used which would allow him to increase visibility, without disturbing the day/night cycle and sending the marine inhabitants back to various hiding spots? I was thinking of having him try a low power LED light, or maybe use a lamp which gives off only red light since that’s on the lowest end of the spectrum.
I’ve been using a blue LED light for about 2-3 months now. If the nocturnal inhabitants of my tank are bothered by it, they haven’t dropped any hints. They come out, yet I can see them easily. The daytime animals (such as the fish) sleep in their little nooks and crannies without a problem.
The model I use is this, mounted against one side of a 75 gallon tank. Because both my model and most 55 gallons are usually the same length (4 feet), you should receive similar illumination to what I have:

how do I hide cords to lamps, etc. if I don’t place my furniture against a wall?
All decorating shows say you shouldn’t line up furniture along a wall and should pull it into the room somewhat. That’s a good idea but what do you do with the electrical cords for table lamps, etc. so that they are not a hazard to others or unsightly?
If you don’t have floor outlets then it’s best to order decorative cord coverings. I use these a lot. I order from Ballard Designs. They are silk and you can order then for less by ordering them in multiples and they offer many color choices to match your floors.

We’re in the process of screening in our deck and would like to add an outdoor sound system. We are technically challenged. For instance, I have downloaded music for my MP3 player, but have no idea how to burn a CD. LOL 
Anyway, we’d like to have outdoor speakers and some type of very simple muti-disk CD Player that can read CD’s that we burn or buy, to play for our everyday use and for when we entertain. Can anyone make specific recommendations for reasonably priced CD player, outdor speakers (with decent sound), volume control options, software needed to burn CD’s, remote or no remote, etc.? We’re already spending a ton on the screen porch, paver patio, outdoor lighting, patio furniture, landscapting, etc., so we just can’t spend a lot of money. Plus, this will NOT be our last home, so I want it to be nice, but I don’t want it to break the bank considering we’ll probably be leaving the speakers for the next homeowners. Desk Lamp Flexible
where can I buy flexible metal tubing such as that used on lamps (similar to flexible conduit but different)?
I have a desk lamp which has a flexible portion allowing it to be positioned as needed, and it will hold that shape. It is made of a metallic type tube which can obviously be bent over and over and not break, and yet it is easily bent and quite rigid when in its position. I would like to know where to purchase some of this material. It is very similar (in looks at least) to flexible metallic conduit, but I could not find it at Home Depot or Lowe’s. Thanks in advance!
You will have to go to a lamp parts place. We sold it at Elliotts Hardware when I worked there and got it from Satco they can be had from about 12″ to as much as 36″
