Do I need a special lamp for a turtle basking light?
I know thatpet stores sell domed clip lamps for turtle basking lights, but I was wondering if I could use a clip on desk lamp from Walmart. The basking light is basically just an incandescent bulb, so I don’t see why it wouldn’t work, but I thought I’d check.
I have a separate UVB flourescent light. This is purely the basking light, and I have read that household incandescent bulbs give off enough heat for that?
If it gives off enough heat, yes, you can use a common household lamp. Just make sure it is warming the tank up enough. You are right, a simple heat lamp is basically the same thing as any old incandescent light.
HOWEVER, (You just knew there had to be something, right?) the one thing you DO need to be careful about is the lamp’s exposure to water. If you have a turtle who tends to splash, you may want to opt for a splash-proof lamp that they carry in pet stores. Also, I wouldn’t get the clip on one, just in case it ever gets knocked over or something. Just one that sits next to it and goes over is fine.

Floor Lamps For Kids Rooms
I lost power in 2 bed rooms, and some celling lights on 2nd floor. I reset the breaker controls them.?
That didn’t work. But one of the two rooms still have one working outlet and that breaker still controls it. It happened when my kid turned on a wall switch of one of the room, which controls a lamp via a wall outlet. The lamp was on for a second and went off along with the other lights. The lamp is still good. Do I have some wiring problem in that area? The rest of the house is all good.
It sounds like a wiring issue. Before you call an electrician, try this just for grins and see if you get lucky. Houses are supposed to have ground fault outlets in what are called wet areas (kitchens, baths, garages, exterior outlets). Even though it shouldn’t be tied into a ground fault circuit, it wouldn’t be the first time I have come across that. So check and make sure your ground fault breaker is on, and then check all your ground fault outlets to make sure they are working. It’s a shot in the dark, but like I said I’ve seen it before. BY the way a ground fault outlet is an outlet with the TEST/RESET buttons. If that doesn’t work, you most likely have a connection that came loose.

sorry none of you links are working but i think you would love how my friends room is. ill try to find pics of what her room looks like, its black and red by the way, ill try to find similar pics. She has a huge wooden bed though with a white comforter and its looks really nice in there.
haha sorry i cant find anything thats in her room but its really nice. I can try to explain it though. She has a black shelf on the wall but it has like diferent squares in it (like maybe six there fairly big) and an antique bed (that i already mentioned) and an antique dest and nightstand. i dont know how big your new room will be but hers is actually like two rooms. theres like an empty door way into the next one where her closet is and one whole wall is a mirror (she was going to put in a ballet bar but just left it out so now its a mirror wall. so as i said the rest of the walls are either black or red and there is a hardwood floor. she has a few lamps in there and a stereo (black) and ipod speakers. she has this candle holder on the wall (with no candles on it) above her desk and its like probably a couple feet long and tall or whatever but its black (on a red wall) and has the little cup type things sticking out but it looks really cool and she has a light dimmer and lots of candles randomly around and what adds to it, making it really look like her room is an easle with a canvas or one of her paintings on it. so pretty much just put in things that reflect what you like. she also has a black pitcure frame with like three picture spaces up and down that have pictures of ballerinas in it(shes like a super good dancer, all diferent kinds of dance but ballet is her main one). so just put in what you like and you can find things that look erally nice but are cheep. ill try to look for more pics but i cant find any like my friends room which probably looks way better then your picturing it becuase i suck at explaining things.

how to build an LED lamp (DIY)?
If I have LED bulbs how do I connect them into a circuit? I am not aiming at building a reading lamp (as I have enough of those). I just want to learn how to hook up LED bulbs to produce an array of bulbs which I can plug in etc and light up my room. 10x
well for LED’s you should have a dc power source, what do you plan on powering it with? you can run it off of you household 120V AC power, but you will first need to make a simple Full Wave Bridge Rectifier, perhaps with a capacitor so they won’t flicker as much at 60Hz. plans for these can easily be found online. Now remember that LED’s only light when you apply power in the correct direction so you have to make sure they are all facing the same way. Depending on your power source you have to make sure that each LED gets the right voltage. first, how many volts are these LED’s supposed to take? if you have a 6 volt circuit and you LED’s require 3 volts to operate, you will want to connect them in series, that way they share the voltage. with 12 volts you would use 4 LED’s now say you have 8 LED’s and a 12v power source, you would make two chains as in the previous example and connect them in parallel. All of these terms can easily be found on Wikipedia by the way. Now if you plugged this into the wall you would need around 40 LED’s in series assuming you have 120V service and that you already made a Rectifier. This number can be reduced by using a step down transformer to reduce the 120V to a lower AC voltage, you would still have to rectify it into DC, but you would no longer require as many LED’s. Glass Lamp For Shells
Terrapin Shells?
Recently my terrapins have had a build up of algae on their shells. I’ve been cleaning them with some gauze and recently a babies toothbrush (they’re still fairly young so i thought softer bristles would help)
One of my terrapins has a small brown lump on his shell, when in water it looks like its peeling but when out of water its barely noticeable. It really is tiny, i’m not sure what to do with it.
Is it normal? Is it easy to get rid of? Should i take them to a vet?
These are my first terrapins and i do mother them quite alot and i do get nervous about the way i treat them quite a bit.
They have a UV light, a heat lamp and a rock they climb onto alot.
I scrub their shells and clean their rock and the tank glass regularly. And have a big clean about once a month.
They have cuttlebone in their tank as well.

the best thing you can do is get your terrapin checked out by a vet to make sure it does not have shell damage, in the wild the terrapin would naturally have algae on its shell, it is a slow moving creature and the algae builds up on the shell, it also helps with camouflaging the terrapin, you are good with your cleaning but before you scrub your terrapins shell again get it checked out and get expert advise on a safe way to remove the algae from its shell, if you send the tortoise trust and email they will reply with some expert advise, you can find them at www. tortoisetrust.org, best of luck honey.
