Fluorescent shop light – can it be adapted to a home plug?

I bought a Fluorescent shop light at lowes and it has a electric connection I would assume is to be used to hard-wire it into a houses’ electric system. I need it to be able to be plugged in. What do I need to buy to adapt this orange plug cap to connect to a standard US outlet?
The cap is bright orange, rectangular, a little larger than a quarter, is two part (splits in half when you pull it apart), has two wire-sized holes coming out the other end (one is black).
I have rewired lamps and such and I feel this is probably the same process but if there is a part i can just hook on to get this in a normal wall outlet it will save me a lot of time. Thanks!!

It can be adapted. The small orange thing is a quick disconnect. When replacing the ballast this is pulled apart to break power so the fixture can be repaired safely. You can buy a pre made cord usually up to 6 feet long. Just wire nut white to white, black to black and green to green with one of the green wires stripped back and tightened under the green ground screw on the fixture. Make sure and use a cord grip to attach the cord to the fixture so the cord is secure and will not pull loose and short out

Some people don’t like the light they produce, but the technology has been improving, and I find the Sylvania “soft white” compact fluorescent light bulb, which has a color temperature of 3000K, produces a clean white light comparable to halogen incandescent light bulbs. A 13 watt CFL produces as much light as a 60 watt incandescent, so it costs less to operate and saves energy, reducing carbon dioxide emissions at power plants.

I use some. I am slowly starting to convert, but I still like the color of incandescent bulbs better. Maybe by the tme my incandescent stash runs out I’ll try some more.

Can anyone help with setting up a vivarium for Bearded Lizards?

Ok, ive built the vivarium 4′x2′x2′ out of melamine,with glass sliding doors at front etc.
I’ve purchased some lighting/heating items from a local reptile shop and need a little advice setting them up.
items purchased:

T-Rex Cobrastat (thermostat)
30″ Exo Terra Repti Glo 10.0 UVB 25w tube and starter unit
75w Sun Glo Neodymium basking spot lamp and fittings

when ive fitted the tube light and basking lamp to the top of the vivarium,which one do i use the thermostat with ? if its the basking lamp where would i place the sensor probe near the basking lamp or at the cooler end?
Also at night when the uvb tube and basking lamp are off do i need another heat source to maintain a temperature throughout the night..

im sort of confused, but i have two desert lizards and other reptiles (a bearded dragon and a frilled dragon and a ball python… ect.) and here is some advice:

you need to have more than one thermometer. put one of them on the hot end of the cage (to see what the high temp is) and the other one at the coller end of thew cage to see what the lowest temp is. i would also suggest getting a heating coil. a heating coil doesnt give off any light, but it keeps tempuratures at night from getting too cold. they usually work in heating lamp holders. i also have a heating pad underneath the cage to keep the ground warm, but if you get one that is too hot, you may burn the animal. i would suggest looking online for more detailed information! good luck!

happened when turned on lamp plugged in to 1 of the outlets, no breakers tripped. when test outlet with a circuit tester get nothing when probes in both slots (where you plug things in) but it does light up when the probe is in 1 slot & other probe to ground.

Sounds like you have a loose neutral. Sometimes under a load a poor connection will finally give way. If I had to guess I would say the outlets were “back stabbed”; that is, the electrician used the connections on the back of the outlet. If they are daisy chained, then when one connection goes bad it impacts every other outlet down the line. The only way to verify it is to pull the outlets out and check the connection. If you discover that is the problem, remake the connections on the screw terminal. Turn the power off and don’t do it if you feel unprepared for the job. Doing it wrong could cause a fire or electrocution.

Outdoor motion sensor lighting?

We have a regular outdoor lamp with a regular lightbulb that I would like to convert to a motion sensor light. It’s on our side porch just outside the door and we don’t leave the light on all the time. We just like to illuminate the area if someone is coming over at nighttime or when we are getting home after being out all day. Is it easy to convert this regular light to a motion sensor light? What type of hardware do we need to make this conversion? Is it just a lightbulb or is there a whole kit that needs assembly? Is this an easy task or is it pretty involved? Best answer will go to the response that is detailed and easy to understand. Thanks!

For under $10, you can buy a conversion kit at the hardware store. The one we got simply screws into the base that the light bulb goes into and then you leave the switch in the on position all of the time so that the bulb will turn on with motion. Make sure you have the sensor pointed in the correct position because when we first installed ours we had it pointed toward a tree which would activate it every time the wind blew.
