Baby’s nursery is so blah… suggestions?

We rent our house so we can’t paint (I would love to have a pink nursery!). My daughter is 8 months old and her room is pretty much: a crib, an end table, a lamp, a bean bag chair, a shelf on the wall, two pictures, a closet, a laundry container. That’s it.. every time I go in there I think “I gotta do some re-arranging” but I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to spend more money, but I would like a rug. Do you think a girly rug would be appropriate or is it best to keep it natural? There are hardwood floors, and tan curtains (sheers).

I’m just looking for something to do that doesn’t make it look so empty…. HMMM!

This morning my roommate was sleeping in. I tried very hard not to wake her. I tip-toed around the room, tried not to make any noise, and got dressed in the dark so as not to disturb her. As I was about to leave, I had to grab my notebook, but my notebooks look the same in the dark, so I turned on my desk lamp for a quick second so I could get the right notebook. The moment I flipped the switch she sprang out of bed and yelled at me for being an insensitive jerk for waking her up. She was woken up 4 minutes before her alarm was set to go off. I have to deal with this every morning. Am I wrong, or is she overly sensitive?

Would a 50″ LED DLP (1080p) be good for me?

I’ve saved up about $2000 to upgrade my old standard 27″ to a nice 1080p HDTV to go with my xbox360 and ps3 (and Blu-Ray movies, ps2, etc). I’m currently looking into a 50″ and I’m really kinda stuck as far as choosing which type of HDTV to go with. The space it’s going to fit into is an ikea entertainment unit with a space that measures 41″x30″x23″. I’ll be sitting in the middle of it (maybe sometimes at a 45° angle) about 6′ away at the most (I have a pretty small room). Is a 50″ too big? I just assumed that bigger is better, but will it affect my overall view? Besides that though, i just want a reliable TV that will deliver great picture (and sound, as I don’t have a separate sound system). I’m looking into the LED DLPs, as I don’t want to worry about burn in or changing lamp bulbs, and I hear they offer better picture quality than LCD tvs. As I said, it’ll mainly be for gaming and movie watching, but I do also watch a lot of TV. Can someone help point me in the right direction?

If you’re sitting only 6′ away, I would recommend a TV in the range of maybe 37″ at most. a 50″ TV from that close of a range will just be too much for your eyes, and end up being a waste of a TV essentially. With that money, you could get a 37″ and a decent surround sound system.

Does anyone know where I can buy in Australia those children’s bedroom lamps that revolve slowly?

They revolve and project images on to the wall (sort of anyway). They are box looking, usually with white rice paper style sides.

I know exactly what you are talking about but I am having a hard time finding them online. I have found something called Spin Shades, but they are not the same thing, although perhaps an acceptable alternative if you can’t find what you are looking for. Just Google Spin Shades and you will get tons of options.

Have you considered shopping online? I have found Ebay to be an excellent resource for just about anything I am looking for. Best thing, all my shopping is done in the comfort of my home and whatever I buy is shipped right to my door! I found this auction which I think might be close to what you are looking for. i am getting married next saturday (november 7th) and for my ceremony i want bows that reach the floor on the Pugh’s and then down the aisle i want a white aisle runner and the white netting stuff on each side with red rose petals intertwined with it. on the walls there are lamps between the windows i would love to drape the white netting stuff from one lamp to another and put red rose petals in that as well with bows hanging from the lamps. we are putting candles in the window and flowers on the piano. what do you think is that to much or is that going to be pretty.

I think it sounds very romantic– just make sure that you do not over do it.

Also, be careful when draping things on the lamps that nothing is near the bulbs in any way. You definitely do not want a fire to start during your ceremony!

How do I get my electricity to work in my room? I did something wrong. Help!?

I don’t have a light bulb in my desk lamp, but I was drawing a picture and needed light, so I went into my sister’s room and took a light bulb from a lamp she had. It was kind of smaller though but I thought it would fit.

So I tried putting it in, and sure, it was smaller, but it flashed for a second! So I was like, whoa, maybe it will still work.. and I put it in again, and POW, all my lights turned off, for my room, the bathroom, and my 2 sisters rooms.

How do I fix it?! I don’t know how bad it is and I had to lie to my mom that I didn’t touch anything.

Don’t worry, you haven’t damaged anything. You just tripped the circuit breaker.

A circuit breaker is special kind of switch that turns off the electricity if too much current goes thru it. The bulb you put in was too small to fil the socket, and it probably shorted across the lamp socket.

You need to find the circuit breaker panel. It a panel on the wall, usually in the basement or garage or other out-of-the-way place. They’re usually gray, with a small door about 12 inches by 18 inches or so. Open it up and you’ll see a couple of rows of switches – usually black. One of the switches will be halfway between the On position and the Off position. It may also have a clear plastic window with a red “tripped” indicator visible. This is the breaker that supplies power to the part of the house that’s lost its lights.

Now that you’ve found the breaker, turn it to the Off position, and then turn it back On. All done!
