Desk Lamp Sydney
Any ideas for an Aussie themed room?
I’m redecorating my room with an Australian theme. The walls are a light pastel green, and I have some green and blue tropical flower sheets by Lilu on my bed. I have a boomerang above my bed and some shells on my desk. I’ve just recently ordered some prints of koala bears, sydney harbour, etc. I also have a raffia-like curtain on my window. It’s starting to come together, but I still feel like it needs something. I would like to get a new lamp, but not sure what kind. Any ideas for what to add?
I have ordered a print with koalas, a landscape of sydney harboar, a kookaburra print, and I’m waiting for a print of an 1890 Aussie Map. Planning on getting some more prints of native animals and ayers rock as well as the great barrier reef.
Contact the Australian Tourist Commision in NYC, if you live in the US, and ask them if they have any old promotional posters they would be willing to send you. You can have them framed and they will make great decorations. Some people think of the outback when they think of Australia and some people think of the Great Barrier Reef and the tropics. Sounds as though you are going for the tropics. You could also get a potted palm or two for your room.

Late 1800′s to early 1900′s wall paper printing rollers.?
In the 1960′s a gentelman by the name of Jess Little, on Telegraph Ave. in Oakland, CA. made lamps out of discarded wall paper rollers he bought in Canada. He took these rollers (42″ long) and cut them in half and made 1 pair of lamps. He manufactured about 50 pair total.
My question is, are any still around and does any body know where I might find some of these vintage rollers?
You know what your chances are of finding one of these rare lamps that are in limited supply? Pretty small, I’d say. Have you tried looking in antique or vintage furnitiure stores in the Oakland, California area? That’s probably your best bet. Good luck–you’re going to need it.

Restoring the glass tint on a lava lamp?
I have two old lava lamps and over the years they have gotte scratched and some of the tinting on the glass is spotting and is showing spots of clear glass instead of the blue it has. I don’t know if this makes any sense but I want to find out how to repair this, I would love to see my gorgeous lamps without the missing paint/tint. Any ideas?
If you go to a hobby store (I don’t know where you live but here in Texas we have MJ Designs and Hobby Lobby. Also Joann Fabrics has a big hobby section) you should be able to find paint used to make sun catchers (thin lucite design shapes that can be painted to replicate the look of stained glass when they are hung in windows and the sun shines in). The thing about that paint is that it is a gel-based paint that is transparent while still having color. It may be hard to find the exact shade of blue as your lave lamp, but even a somewhat close match will look much less noticeable than the bright white light from the lamp shining through.

How do I fix a lamp switch?
I have a gooseneck desk lamp with the on/off switch behind the metal lamp shade.The switch is pretty standard about 1/2 inch long and turns. The switch no longer turns. It’s stuck. Is there a way to fix this? Is it safe to use WD-40?
It’s probably broken if it doesn’t turn. It may be a part of the whole bulb holder. It’ll probably need to completely replaced.
Unplug lamp
remove bulb
remove switch by unscrewing the switch.
Feed the wire up the goose neck until assembly comes out
remove the wires
take the assembly to a hardware a store and buy one just like it
Install in reverse order
