Glass Lamp Globes
My mother bought a set of antique lamps..how much are they worth?
I’ve been looking on the internet for over an hour and can’t find a picture of them. These lamps are electric and have a glass globe that is an amber or light orange color and has a grape and oak pattern. On the base is the inscription L&LWMC 1971. Both the lamps work but the guy that sold the pair to us for $5 had thrown away the shades, because they were so dusty. If anyone can help find a picture and what they’re selling for…, I’d appreciate it…..thanks!

Hi. Without a photograph it is impossible to say. From 1971, they are not antiques. It sounds like it is a hurricane or “gone with the wind” style lamp.
Check the glass carefully for signatures or marks, sometimes they are very hard to see unless you capture it in the right light or use a black light.
I have seen an older L&L WMC lamp go for $200.00 in a vintage/ antique shop. One 1970s L&LWMC lamp recently sold on ebay for 120. I have also seen these lamps sold as unmarked Fenton, another marked Tiffa-Mini which may have been a trademark for Westmoreland glass, but again without seeing it…so hard to say. Another lamp with an L&LWMC bottom was signed D. Schnupp on the glass, another marked Plymouth Harlee on the glass.
L&LWMC was most likely the metal parts manufacturer of these lamps. There was a company L&LW Metal Company or L&L white metal casting located in Carlstadt, NJ until 1974. In other words this company made the base/metal parts and sold them to various glass & porcelain companies. You might try to contact the historical society in NJ to gather more info on the company and take your search from there. You could try asking the question on the antique & arts forum, there are many questions about these lamps there.

Well, Color combinations for that color could really be anything. I would use maybe some lighter colored bedding, Maybe a neon green lamp shade on top of a lamp (check target), Any colored rug to go on the floor. Artwork can be any color that maybe has a blue about that color in it. I think for the ceiling decor you should sponge white and light blue with a hint of the mermaid treasure color and make it look like clouds on the ceiling. that would look really cool.

Golden is correct. A little more detail.
1. no, the whole idea of a parallel circuit is that the loads (lights) are not dependent on each other.
2. they get brighter (all other things being equal) because you lower the resistance which increases the current and the power.
3. so you can turn it off and on. Like unplugging the light. that is the only you can wire it. It you put it in parallel, the switch would cause a fire.

Outdoor Lighting Photography Tips

I’ve been asked to do a favor (a freebie for friends) for a classic car club. They want me to do a photo shoot of their cars with models, I might even do it as a hobbie. I have a descent eye for lighting from directing motion pictures (never Cam Operator) but I hire crew to deal with all that. I have a cannon rebel xl. Just need some lighting pointers for vehicle+model lighting set-up (easy set-up nothing fancy) if anybody can offer since I’m doing everything/set-up for this shoot (with limited equipment). Indoor and outdoor tips would be great. Thanks in advance.
It’s a hard call to give you specific lighting advice, especially as a car and a model are involved. I think you’re very smart to keep it simple – you are far more likely to get a good result. And I would also agree that bouncing flash and diffusers will help. To this I would suggest you add reflectors to your list as they are easy to use. The other issue will be flash fall off – implying a distance between your flash and the subject required to get even lighting (the further the more even your light will be) – BUT this also implies a requirement for power! (If you are closer to your subject you will have a greater difference between the relative distance of the front of the car versus the back of the car – the further away you are the less this proportional difference in lighting.)
I’d shoot on RAW in this instance as it will give you more latitude in post processing your images.
