Incandescent light bulbs , vs, Florecent light???
How can they say that americans are going to save energy when you have to drive your blown florecent lights to a recycling center that is 50 miles away and that Americans will save money when the energy companies will just raise their rates on electricity? and where did our rights to choose go? and don’t the manufacturers on incandescent light bulbs have anything to say about what will happen to their bussiness? not to mention all the florecent bulbs are made in China?
Yeah!! They contain Mercury, a hazardous material. if you break one you would have a hazmat spill on your hands. god forbid you lids swallow any of it. That’s why when they burn out you have to take them to a recycle center. and try to find one with in 50 miles.
Now they’re saying that the compact florescent bulbs are actually bad for the environment because if they end up in a landfill they contain mercury. Who cares I say but as long as they burn less electricity that I’m paying for then screw the environment.

Energy Saving Lights Mercury
Does anyone know of a disposal site for the new energy saving light bulbs? I live in the state of Maryland.?
I just recently learned that the new energy saving light bulbs need to be handled with care and disposed of properly. It seems these bulbs contain mercury. I know that the Ikea stores will take them but would like to know if there are other sites.
The concern is outdated as it applied to earlier models of these bulbs which had a ballast with more mercury in it than is in the current ones. All bulbs contain a little mercury and CFL’s actually have less than regular bulbs now, so dispose of them as you would your regular bulbs. You can just put them in the trash.

The lamp I have is of a French boy and girl. On both lamps they are on either side of a tree. I saw the hillbilly one once and made the mistake of not buying it. I would like to have both for a set as I make stained glass lamp shades and have art glass that matches the colors. I have tried Google and ebay but can’t figure out how to describe what I am looking for and get everything but what I want. These are normal sized bedside or table lamps. They might be art from the 60′s but I don’t know. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

How best to light a 15′ by 15′ room?
My new house has no built in lighting in the family room. It is 15′ by 15′ feet. On one wall, I am planning to install 2 display shelves with halogen down lights in them, and that should help a little. And of course, I’ll put table lamps on end tables on each end of the sectional.
But this is still not enough light in there to really give good ambient coverage. I’m planning on hiring an electrician to install wiring for some ceiling lighting. What do I need to get coverage in this room? Would one central fixture on a dimmer be enough? How much wattage should be in the fixture? How many separate lights? Is there anything I should know about distance from the ceiling, etc? Flush vs semi flush vs chandelier? Or do I really need to go for four cans at each corner of the room (less cost effective, but I’d rather get this done right the first time)? Or I have seem rooms with both the central fixture and the cans.
What’s the best way to get good, flexible coverage?
One central fixture could be enough in conjunction with your table lamps. For a room that is 15′ X 15′ the total wattage you are going to want is 337. So if you are using 60 watt bulbs that would be 5-6 lamps.
Generally the bottom of a fixture should be 7′ from the floor or 7 ½’ if you have high ceilings.
If you put in the spots in the ceiling that would give you general lighting pretty easily then just add the lamps for task lighting.
I have seen both the spots and ceiling fixtures together in one room too. If you did that the ceiling fixture could work on a dimmer. It may not be necessary to have both though. Ask yourself what the room is mainly going to be used for.
While the lighting on the shelves will be beautiful, they are really only going to provide accent lighting, so that will be a bonus.

College Dorms and Decorating?
So I am going to be living in a dorm in the fall and I am super excited about decorating my dorm, but I dont know where to start! I know what i need; twin xl sheets, comforter, pillows, storage, desk chair, loveseat, lamp, wall decor, a rug, and other decorating things. I have looked at sites like target, PB Teen, walmart, overstock, victorias secret, bed bath and beyond and found nothing that i really like. I figured I would start by picking a comforter but i cant decide. I like pink, I like blue, I was thinking zebra print but I just cant figure it out! So what I would like some help with is picking like a theme I guess and what I mean by that is finding me a comforter from a site and then giving me ideas for the rest of the room.
